Each offers a unique twist on the classic, but today, we’re diving deep into the unparalleled magic of pears.

Why Pear Cinnamon Rolls Are Your New Fall Favorite
The name truly says it all: pears, cinnamon, sticky, sweet rolls, and the sublime finishing touch of cream cheese frosting. It’s a combination that reaches peak deliciousness, especially when pears are at their seasonal best. As we fully embrace the beauty of fall, sweet and juicy pears become abundant, inviting us to transform them into something truly spectacular. While often overshadowed by apples, pears bring a delicate sweetness and a wonderfully unique texture to baked goods. Paired with the creamy tang of cream cheese frosting, it’s a symphony of flavors that will convert even the most skeptical palates.
Pears are a true gift of the autumn harvest. According to the Food Network, pear season typically spans from August through October, with a vast majority of these delectable fruits, approximately 95%, cultivated on the West Coast. Beyond their incredible taste, pears are packed with nutrients, offering fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. However, while they are naturally healthy, this particular recipe leans into the indulgent side, designed to provide comfort and pure joy – a wholesome experience for the soul and an unforgettable treat for your senses.

Crafting the Perfect Pear Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting
This recipe shares its foundational excellence with my beloved apple cider cinnamon rolls with browned butter frosting. The dough itself is a testament to perfection: incredibly pillowy, wonderfully soft, generously buttery, and subtly sweet. It serves as the ideal canvas for the star of the show – the pear filling. This filling isn’t just any pear filling; it’s a luscious, beautifully smooth puree, gently spiced with cinnamon and a hint of ginger, transforming ripe pears into a warm, aromatic embrace. And then, to complete this masterpiece, we add the silky, rich cream cheese frosting, tying all the magical elements together into one harmonious bite.
The Dough: A Foundation of Fluffiness
Creating the perfect cinnamon roll begins with the dough. We start with active dry yeast activated in lukewarm whole milk and a touch of sugar. This crucial step ensures your yeast is alive and ready to work its magic, giving your rolls that signature airy texture. The mixture then combines with all-purpose flour, fragrant cinnamon, rich dark brown sugar, a hint of vanilla extract, and kosher salt. Kneading this dough for 6-8 minutes, starting slow and gradually increasing speed, develops the gluten, resulting in an incredibly soft and elastic dough. Incorporating softened salted butter one tablespoon at a time towards the end of the kneading process adds richness and tenderness, making each bite truly decadent. The first rise, an hour in a warm place until doubled in size, is essential for achieving that light, fluffy texture we all crave.
The Pear Filling: A Sweetly Spiced Heart
While your dough rises, prepare the aromatic pear filling. Bosc pears are an excellent choice for their firm texture and sweet, slightly spicy flavor, holding up beautifully when cooked. Chopped pears are simmered with white sugar, a generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice (which brightens the flavor and prevents browning), warm cinnamon, and a subtle touch of ground ginger, finished with a pinch of salt to enhance all the flavors. Bringing this mixture to a boil for a few minutes before reducing to a simmer with a splash of water ensures the pears soften perfectly, ready to be mashed or pureed into a smooth, fragrant filling. Allowing it to cool slightly before spreading helps it adhere better to the dough.
The Assembly: Rolling and Rising to Perfection
Once your dough has completed its first rise, gently transfer it to a lightly floured work surface. The key is to roll it into a precise 12×18-inch rectangle – this ensures even layers and consistent rolls. Spread your cooled pear filling evenly across the dough, leaving a small border to help seal. Carefully roll the dough into a tight log, starting from one of the longer sides. Using a sharp knife or even unflavored dental floss, slice the log into 1.5-inch pieces. Arrange these beautiful spirals in a prepared 9×13 inch baking dish. A second rise, covered with a towel for 30 minutes, allows the rolls to puff up even more, guaranteeing an incredibly tender final product.
The Cream Cheese Frosting: The Crowning Glory
No cinnamon roll is complete without its frosting, and our cream cheese frosting is truly “out of this world.” It’s incredibly simple yet delivers immense flavor. Combine softened cream cheese and room-temperature butter until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla extract for depth, then gradually beat in powdered sugar until light and fluffy. A few tablespoons of water help achieve the perfect, spreadable consistency. This rich, tangy, and sweet frosting is the ideal counterpoint to the spiced pear rolls, creating a balance that is utterly irresistible. Slather it generously over your warm, golden-brown cinnamon rolls for an unforgettable indulgence.
Baking and Serving Your Pear Cinnamon Rolls
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake the rolls for approximately 25 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown and are cooked through. The aroma filling your kitchen will be a preview of the deliciousness to come! Once baked, let them cool slightly before applying the frosting. While still warm, the frosting will melt ever so slightly, creating a gooey, irresistible topping. Serve these pear cinnamon rolls for a decadent breakfast, a special brunch, or an unforgettable dessert. They are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored and gently reheated.

Pear Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk, lukewarm
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 3 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 3 tbsps salted butter, softened
Pear Filling
- 4 bosc pears, chopped
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- Pinch of Salt
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 stick butter, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tbsp water
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine active dry yeast, lukewarm milk, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Stir gently and allow the yeast to bloom for 10 minutes until foamy.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment, combine the bloomed yeast mixture, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, kosher salt, and dark brown sugar. Mix on low speed, gradually increasing to medium-high as the dough begins to form, and continue mixing for 6-8 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Add the softened salted butter, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Transfer the dough to a well-oiled bowl, turning once to coat. Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the pear filling. In a saucepan, combine chopped pears, white sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, fresh lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low, add 1/4 cup water, and simmer until the pears are very soft. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. Once cooled, you can mash the pears with a fork or use an immersion blender for a smoother puree.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently and transfer it to a lightly floured work surface. Roll the dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Evenly spread the cooled pear filling across the dough, leaving a small margin along one of the longer edges. Carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 1.5-inch thick pieces. Arrange the rolls in a 9×13-inch baking pan, leaving a small space between each. Cover the pan with a towel and let the rolls rise again for 30 minutes in a warm spot.
- Bake the cinnamon rolls for 25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through. Allow them to cool slightly in the pan before frosting.
- To make the cream cheese frosting, in a medium bowl, combine the room-temperature cream cheese, room-temperature butter, vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and water. Using a hand mixer (or stand mixer with a paddle attachment), beat the ingredients together until the frosting is completely smooth and creamy.
- Generously spread the luscious cream cheese frosting over the slightly warm pear cinnamon rolls.
- Serve immediately and enjoy every delicious bite!
